NEW RESCUE ENGINE BEGINS PRODUCTION

November 20, 2020
For those who may not be aware, the CCFD membership voted at the March meeting to purchase a new, custom rescue pumper from Sutphen Corporation. With the current rescue being 30-years old and the engine approaching its 20-year mark, the apparatus spec committee set out to design a modern unit that could function as both a rescue squad and a front-line engine. The committee met for months with various manufacturers to develop specs and comb through all of the options that are available. At the same time, the apparatus finance committee developed a plan to fund the new truck through a variety of means including earmarked funds set aside each month for this purpose, as well as grants, fund drives, a loan, and municipal support.

At the end of the long process, the final recommendation made to the department was to award the bid to Sutphen Corporation, headquartered in Amlin, OH. The chassis will be constructed at the Springfield, OH plant and will then move to the Sutphen East plant in Lake Ariel, PA (near Scranton) for final pump and body assembly.

The unit will be a 2021 Sutphen with a 73' Monarch custom cab with a 10' raised roof and seating for 6 personnel. It will be powered by a 500 hp Cummins X12 diesel motor. The body will house a 1,500-gpm Hale Qmax pump, a 1,000 gallon water tank, SmartPower generator, and low hosebed. Additional details and features can been be viewed on the production page.

The department received notification this week that production has started on the pump module framework and a few pictures are shown below. We expect to receive weekly pictures and will post them as we get them. Final inspection is tentatively slated for May 2021, barring any delays related to COVID-19, etc.
